Description

The DT555 is a Destroyer series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez in 1983.
The DT555 features an Explorer-style basswood body with birch top and ivory binding mated to a set-in
3-ply maple neck with a 22-fret ebony fingerboard with pearloid and abalone split block position markers.
Components include a trio of Ibanez V2 humbucking pickups, solid brass Sure Grip knobs and Smooth Tuner II machine heads.
The pickups are wired such that the 3-way toggle controls which of the outside pickups are active (neck/ both/ bridge) and
volume for these pickups is controlled by a single control. The second volume control allows the center pickup to be blended in with any combination of the other two.
A single tone covers all three pickups.
The initial DT555 for 1983 came equipped with a Hard Rocker Pro synchronized tremolo bridge.
Sometime in mid 1984 the Pro Rock'r double locking tremolo system with a Top Lok string lock behind the nut was substituted.
The DT155 is a similar model with different components.
Although the DT555 was not officially designated as a signature model it has been closely associated with Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen.
Collen appeared with the guitar in Ibanez catalogs and promotional materials.
The DT555 was discontinued after 1985.
