HUNTLEIGH WOODS (HEIGHTS), MISSOURI Development Prospectus Proposal Photos Blueprint

Huntleigh is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri with a population of 334 during the 2010 census. In 1927, August Anheuser Busch, Sr. co-founded the Bridlespur Hunt, a fox hunting club that was based in the community. Its residents are among the wealthiest people in St. Louis, particularly members of the Busch and Moran families, including August Busch IV. Huntleigh is a residential community of just over 100 families. Other prominent St. Louisians, including Percy Orthwein, Charles Brown, Louis Hager, Lewis Apple, John Strauch and the von Gontards soon followed.

The neighborhood of Huntleigh got its start as a retreat for wealthy St. Louisans in the early 1900s—a place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the booming industrial city and spend some time in a beautiful natural setting. Huntleigh continued to attract visitors and residents, growing to the 750 acres it encompasses today. Huntleigh is a residential community of just over 100 families. A quiet, almost country like atmosphere, in the heart of St. Louis County.

As the rest of St. Louis County grew up around it, developing into sprawling suburbs and neatly laid subdivisions of Traditional and Ranch-style homes, Huntleigh maintained the characteristics that have always made it such a desirable location for St. Louisans. Homes in Huntleigh represent some of the greatest luxuries available in the St. Louis area, with residences generally accompanied by at least a few acres of land. Home prices sit firmly in the millions, with even undeveloped lots of two to three acres selling for just below $2 million. On the smaller end, you’ll find ranch-style homes of over 3,000 square feet, while mid-range homes in the neighborhood are Traditional and Colonial Revival styles of between 5,000 and 8,000 square feet. You’ll also find some of the largest mansions in the area—multimillion dollar buildings in a variety of styles with floor plans offering well over 10,000 square feet on large estates loaded with amenities like private swimming pools, guest houses, and even horse stables for any equestrians.

Luxury homes aside, one of the most alluring aspects of this neighborhood is its unique combination of lifestyle and location. Rex Schwerdt, a Realtor with Gladys Manion, Inc. explains “it’s a great place to live if you want to feel like you’re in the country while still being close to a major metropolitan area”. Huntleigh is covered in thick woods, and homes are built with plenty of breathing room between neighbors. This means that residents can enjoy more privacy than you’ll find anywhere else in the St. Louis area, while still being a mere 20 minutes away from downtown St. Louis, nestled among some of St. Louis’ most popular suburbs, like Kirkwood, Frontenac, and Ladue.

Huntleigh is, rather proudly, a neighborhood with a purely residential focus. You won’t find any commercial or retail areas here, but that doesn’t mean that life here is inconvenient. Two miles north up South Lindbergh Boulevard is Plaza Frontenac, the regions premier high-end shopping destination, with storefronts for just about any luxury brand you’re after.
