1948 Press Photo Worker Watching Machine Make Lumber at London Research Center

London: Leading plastics scientists and teams of research workers at a London plant have solved a ten-year problem in the manufacture with the aid of high of man-made lumber. Frequency radio waves, infra-red heat, and electro-magnetic vibrations, they can now produce the lumber (compressed sawdust bonded previously, the with resin) in any length. Board could be pressed out only within certain sizes, now sawdust and resin are fed into a hopper, mixed, heated by radio waves, and then passed under pressure with the temperature maintained by infra-red waves. The board produced is used for building and making furniture, and has applications in shipping, road, rail and air transport. A worker at the Camden Town research center of the company watches the man-made lumber roll from a machine. British Artificial Resin Company Photo measures 7.25 x 9 inches. Photo Is dated 1948.
