Japanese Shikishi Art Board Reproduction

This item is a Japanese shikishi art board. It is a printed reproduction of an artwork by artist Takatori Wakanari representing three men resting around a fire. In the background, Japanese Momiji trees with red leaves can be seen. The colors used are white, black, and orange. This shikishi has printed information on the bottom right. 

There are three basic types of shikishi paper—calligraphy (poem, haiku) only, calligraphy with pictures, and pictures only. Since the Heian period, people have been writing waka and haiku on Shikishi paper (various sizes), but in the Meiji period, they started using paper of the current size. Currently, shikishi paper/boards are used for autographs of celebrities and commemorative messages to friends, coworkers, and classmates.
