Royal  Engineers Officer's  mess jacket, waistcoat and trousers  tailor-made by Gieves & Hawkes in 1986, each bearing the Gieves sewn labels (see photos). The owner is a retired Reserve officer and the uniform has thus had infrequent wear. The 100% wool cloth is in very good condition - rather better than the images attached. The trousers have standard leather straps at the bottom of the legs and removable leather braces with button fixings (see photos). The jacket has Lieutenant- Colonel rank badges on the shoulders and R.E. Corps badges on the lapels.
The upper right arm of the jacket has two, very small wine stains 9mm & 4mm long respectively, inevitable evidence of a good mess dinner and of a slightly unsteady wine waiter. These are minor and honourable spots in a splendid uniform.
The cost of a new mess kit from Gieves is now far beyond the reach of ordinary mortals!
Ubique!
