It’s important to note that many (most?) of these adapters are prone to having a sticky residue from the rubber/plastic cover breaking down over time (even when sealed)…and it looks like this one likely has the same issue, judging by just the impression on the plastic see-through front.

However, I will guarantee this unit works perfectly otherwise, as I have myself previously purchased and used another new sealed adapter exactly like this and was able to clean away the stickiness with alcohol. You can probably also use Goo Gone (stuff you use to remove stickers, found in most stores like Target/Walmart).

Again, almost any sealed adapter is likely (though not guaranteed to have this issue, whether it is known and/or disclosed or not.)
