Thirty-six Selected Beauties - Reflecting back on the classic beauty prints of the previous era, Toshikata's lovely "Thirty-six Beauties" series illustrates the daily activities of women from various time periods and walks of life. A geisha practicing the shamisen, a beauty in her private quarters, an entertainer crossing the river on a ferry--these charming scenes wonderfully capture life in Japan throughout the ages. Beautifully printed, many of the images feature deluxe techniques such as delicate embossing or burnishing, along with soft bokashi shading. A delightful series, great for collecting or as a wonderful display in any room.

Artist - Toshikata (1866 - 1908)

The print is vintage and original. I am not an expert in the field, but I have seen that for this artist, it is often mentioned that the prints are "woodblock", but from the images of this type, it seems that the back is transparent, while this one is not. They are certainly quite old, but I cannot determine the period or the technique; they are printed on lightweight paper. I purchased them several years ago in Europe along with various other paper materials. I have provided all the information I have, and thus I am listing them at a lower price than what I normally see other sellers asking for.
