A beautifully preserved, Zwiebelmuster (onion pattern) Carl Teichert mug and saucer.

Volume: about 200ml.

Made in Germany, 1882 - 1929.

As it is an antique (more than 50+ years old), it has natural signs of use, the decor is faded/scratched in places (refer to the photos).

ABOUT Carl Teichert MEISSEN :

in 1857 Began its activity with the production of wood stoves in the city of Meissen in 1879. The factory established by Carl Teichert decided to produce porcelain. His brother Ernst Teichert first worked in a factory, but he himself founded a porcelain factory in Cologne. Later, in 1930, the two companies merged under the name Teichert Werke Meissen. The brand is also known as Stadt Meissen.

The company owned the rights to call their products by the city name "MEISSEN", which had been synonymous with porcelain for two centuries, although they later moved production to what is now the Czech Republic. Teichert Werke was successful in copying Meissen products for the mass market, with some of his own designs being successful. They produced hand-painted Zwiebelmuster in huge quantities, but at a better price. Some of their pieces, such as the fine white porcelain decorated with hand-painted flowers, can rival the best of the Königliche Porzellanmanufaktur Meissen.

The fact that all Teichert are hand-painted to a high standard and often antique makes their pieces highly collectable.

This mug has an interesting historical past and great lasting value.
