Pasco County Fire Department - It may not be the newest, shiniest piece of firefighting equipment in town but the Southwest Pasco Fire District is as proud of its 85 foot ladder truck as if it were new. The district acquired the 1951 model truck from Becker Fire Equipment Company, Casper, Wy., which had taken it in trade from the St. Petersburg Beach Fire Department when it bought a new truck. The cost to the district was $13,000. A new truck would cost about $15,000. The aerial truck gives the department the capacity to battle blazes and handle rescue operations in high rise structures or to gain a high angle in battling fires in single story structures. The fire district's area includes the two tallest structures in West Pasco, an office building on US 19 north of Darlington Road and condominium apartment complex at the entrance of Gulf Harbors subdivision. Southwest Pasco Fire Chief Joe Currelly said an intensive training program has been conducted since the engine was delivered to acquaint fire fighters with the effective use and operation of the equipment. Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches. Photo Is dated 1976.
