Japanese Buddhist Costume Sash

This is a Japanese Buddhist costume Wagesa or Hangesa. Wagesa, the surplice worn around the neck during a Shingon service. The term “wagesa” comes from the Sanskrit form of the word “Kasaya”, the robes worn by the disciples of the Buddha.
