For those chasing Brian May's sound:

Brian May's Sound:

It's a well-known fact that a treble booster plays a crucial role in Brian May's unique sound. He used to connect a treble booster to the normal channel of his AC30 combo(s) with the volume set around 3/4.

Brian May's Booster:

In the early Queen days, Brian May used a germanium treble booster, a British Range Master, manufactured from 1965 to 1969. The RM replicates that booster perfectly. In the mid-Queen era, seeking a more biting sound, he transitioned to a silicon transistor design. The BM-Q faithfully reproduces the key treble booster sound of mid-Queen Brian May.

Sound Characteristics:

The BM-Q is designed for guitars equipped with relatively low to medium inductance pickups (Fender, Rickenbacker, Burns, Gibson). When used with such pickups and the guitar's volume control set to maximum, it delivers a lead sound that's fat, biting, yet smooth to the ears. Lowering the guitar's volume yields a crunchy tone with varying levels of distortion depending on the volume. If the amp's volume is cranked up (distorting or saturating), the high end is lost, resulting in a loose sound. However, with the BM-Q, you get a faithful guitar sound without the need for much presence control on the amp.

Vintage Amps and Usage:

When used with vintage amps (Fender Deluxe, Fender Bassman, VOX AC30, Marshall JTM45, Plexi, etc.), you'll achieve fantastic results with a high-quality treble booster.

Connection:

Connect the treble booster between the guitar and the amp. Never use it in the effects loop. The magical tone comes from the interaction between the guitar's pickups, the treble booster, and the amp.
