Hurricane ace with No. 242 Squadron, Wing Commander Douglas Bader was appointed to command the Spitfire IIA equipped Tangmere Wing in March 1941.

The top P-51 Mustang ace, Major Preddy destroyed 27 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. He destroyed five more on the ground.
