This is a brand new American Limited HO Scale GATC Welded Tank Car in the Santa Fe "As Delivered" paint scheme. The road number is ATSF 98001 (Item #1815). This model is ready-to-roll.
In the years following World War II, the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (Santa Fe) purchased two groups of welded tank cars delivered in 1949 and 1953 each with 16,000 gallon capacity. Prior to the acquisition of these two new classes of tank cars, riveting was the primary method of assembly tank cars. These two new classes of tank cars were constructed by General American Tank Car Corp. (GATC) with welded tanks and underframes using new retooling developed during and after the war.
The Santa Fe ordered these two classes of welded tank cars equipped with AB brakes, Ajax handbrakes and 70 ton ASF A-3 Ride Control Trucks.
The Santa Fe instituted a color-coding system to delineate the tank car's lading. As such these tank cars wore colorful paint schemes with colored coded end bands and dome bands to clearly indicate specific use.
The railroad upgraded many of these GATC welded tank cars in the 1970s with modern safety appliances including roller bearing trucks and replacing the side walways with safety bars preventing employees from slipping under the cars.
Many of these 16,000 gallon GATC welded tank cars lasted until the 1990s in company service or in Maintenance of Way service.

Hobby Time ships Monday through Friday excluding US holidays.
We prepare, pack and electronically notify our shippers of the shipment of your order each "Shipping Day" between 11:00 am to 3:00 pm Central time zone Tuesday through Friday (excluding holidays and vacations). Orders released for shipment prior to 3:00 pm are processed on that day.
Transfer of Parcels - 7:00pm to 9:30 am
Parcels are delivered to the various carriers after the close of our Business Day, between 7:00 pm of the "Shipping Day' and 9:30 am the following morning.
Worst Case example:
If you place an order and it is released by PayPal for shipment after 3:00 pm on the Friday afternoon before a Monday Holiday, that order will be processed the next "Shipping Day" which is the following Tuesday. (Friday evening, Saturday Sunday and the Monday holiday are not shipping days)
USPS Express Mail (2-3 business day delivery in the U.S.)
Depending on when your order is submitted and PayPal releases the order to us as "OK to ship", the time of delivery that eBay estimates may not be valid as the actual "Guaranteed Delivery" time of the United States Postal Service. The difference often varies 24 hours or more.
The USPS only guarantees delivery for an Express Parcel after the shipping fee is paid to them and the label printed by the shipper.
We have no control over the USPS and make NO Guarantees beyond the USPS Guaranteed Delivery time.
When your order is processed during our "Shipping Day" the label is printed and tracking information is provided to you "the customer" through eBay. The customer can then view the actual Guaranteed Delivery time by entering the tracking number on USPS.com.
