PERIOD MADE REFRACTORY BOROSILICATE JENA GLASS

This time I have the honor to offer a very rare item - German kerosene lantern FEUERHAND SUPER BABY No.175 used by the German Army before and during the Second World War.

From end of the 19th century the brothers Hermann and Ernst Nier founded a production plant for storm lanterns in the small German town of Beierfeld and from 1893 started the production.

The "Feuerhand" trademark officially was registered in 1914 as a German Reichs-Utility Model for all workshop products, and in 1920 the brand was supplemented with the round Feuerhand emblem.

Between 1920 and 1938, NIER FEUEHAND became the world's largest manufacturer of lanterns.

From 1933, the production of kerosene storm lanterns from the BABY series began. They were equipped with marked refractory (fireproof) Borosilicate glasses from Schott in Jena.

After the start of the Second World War, like many other factories, Nier Feuerhand reoriented itself to military production of smaller storm lanterns - the BABY and ATOM series.

For the specific needs for military field use the German Army asked Nier Feuerhand, for the basic models of BABY and ATOM series, improvement of the burner and military "field grey/olivgrün" camouflage paint.

This kerosene lantern model FEUERHAND SUPER BABY No.175, massively produced from 1933 to 1945, was used and battle field proven in all branches of the German Army.

It is one of the most successful military models of small storm lanterns for field use because it has a perfect balance of dimensions, durability, tank capacity and lighting power.

The lantern being offered is in good overall condition with preserved WW2 German military olive green paint (olivgrün) and with his original Schott Jena borosilicate glass ball.

The traces of long-term military use are visible on lanterns (most likely is used as a rear signal light on some German military tank or armored vehicle...?) and therefore is a serious deposit of black soot from the fuel smoke.
