Two original pieces relating to the Walker family of Upson County, Georgia. The Walkers were a prominent family with Revolutionary War and War of 1812 ties. They were also sl*ve owners.

The first is a circa 1835 painted portrait of Allen Mack Walker (1803-1849), probably painted by John Wood Dodge (1807–1893) or his brother Edward S. Dodge. The style of this image, including the mat and case, looks identical to a signed J.W. Dodge example from the same period that I found while researching online. There is NO signature in the visible areas of the portrait I am offering here; I have personally never examined it outside of its case. Portrait is in a full, red leather case, behind brass mat and beveled cover glass. It appears to be in excellent antique condition. I am not sure what the material is that the portrait is painted on.. paper or ivory, I can't tell for sure.... the glass is very tight in the case and I don't want to risk damaging it by opening it up. 

The second piece included in this lot is a 1/6th plate, late-1850s to c.1860 ambrotype photo of Allen's son, Allen Mack Walker, Jr. (1847-1931). Inside of the case are some interesting notes, which I appear to be a record of Allen Jr.'s proposal of marriage to his future wife, Alice J. Mitchell, and her acceptance! The ambrotype is behind mat and cover glass in full case. It's in good antique condition, slightly dark, and the case has exterior wear.
