Avisaurus Tooth

This small tooth comes from Avisaurus or "Bird Lizard".  Avisaurus is a genus of Enantiornithine bird from the Late Cretaceous Age of North America.  Avisaurs are known from the low lying swamps, lakes, and river basins of the Western shore of the Western Interior Seaway to the more arid uplands which eventually formed the Rocky Mountains.

This Avisaurus tooth was found in one piece needing no restoration.  The bird tooth has great detail and preservation with a dark brown coloration.  All around a nice example of a Cretaceous Age Bird tooth.

The Avisaurus tooth measures:  1/8" of an inch wide by just under 1/4" of an inch in length.

This nice Avisaurus tooth was dug out of a microsite in the Hell Creek Formation of Carter County, Montana.  The fossil was collected on private ranch land with the owner's permission.
