This is a Spode Serving Platter
named “The Hunt * Going To Halloa” with scalloped side rims which
measures approximately 12 ½” (L) x 9 3/8” (W). It is English earthenware made
by Spode.
Hunter green rim band measures approximately 1/4” wide. I believe
the center scene of the serving platter is Transferware which depicts a scene
based on the Herring Hunt Club. Includes horses with riders, along with the
hounds out in in the fields chasing a fox (fox is not in scene). Written lower bottom right of scene reads “J.F.
Herring Sen.”
Colors include Black, pale beige skin tone, light blue, red, white and yellow with shades of brown, gray
and green. All done on an off white or cream ground.
This has been gently used; however, you will find there is some paint loss on the front
rim band, pin point size paint drips or
overspray, with some surface scratches.
The back has mold and or firing marks, with light what looks like rubs on the bottom
edges of the base, some surface scratches, and just a few tiny bit deeper than a surface scratch, as I can
feel then when I run my fingernail over it, however, if you run the fleshy part
of the tip of your finger over it you cannot feel it. Nothing on the back jumps
out at you or sacrifices the integrity of the serving platter. Please note that
I use high powered flashlights (Torch 700 Lumens)along with magnification when
examining this.
Please use your zoom for close ups of my pictures.
Identifying mark on the back top reads “ THE HUNT.” Inside the
English Riding Hat it reads “Spode ENGLAND 2/9265A FROM ORIGINAL DRAWINGS BY
J.F. HERRING SEN.” Under the English Riding Crop it reads “GOING TO HALLOA * 9 33 to the left “M4.”
