Omega has one of the most diverse watch catalogs of any modern brand, and one of the classic watches the company still produces today is the Constellation. Omega first released this line in 1952, and it's still a cornerstone of the modern brand. This Constellation example dates to 1967 and was given characteristics that would go on to define the collection. Satin dial finish, with gold tone dauphine hands indicating the time on raised concave gold gilt indices. A calendar window can be found at the 3 O'Clock position, magnified by the subtle loupe of the original Omega crystal. The satin silvered dial has the Constellation branding on it, of course, as well as an applied star logo. On the caseback is a depiction of the Geneva Observatory with eight stars that represent the eight observatory chronometer competitions Omega won in the 20th century. As you might expect, then, this Constellation was a chronometer-rated watch, and it says so right on the dial.

Omega produced these Constellation examples in solid gold, gold-plated, and stainless-steel. This example is 20 microns gold plated. The Constellation is to Omega what the Datejust is to Rolex - the cream of its manufacture. Vintage Constellations are most prized for their dials and simplified presentation.

Additional Information;

History, reliability and detail. Owning an Omega is an historic experience. Not only has the company been in production since 1848 but they’ve played major roles in America, and the world, since. From the wrist of John F. Kennedy to the moon, Omega means something. It does because Omega has always, and will always manufacture watches to be proud of, watches to rely on.

Since the company was founded in 1848, Omega has pioneered a huge range of innovations. Britain’s Royal Flying Corps chose Omega watches in 1917 as official timekeepers for its pilots and again in 1940, RAF Pilots watches were supplied by Omega. The 1940s also saw the first tourbillon wristwatch and the first of the famous Seamaster watches, whilst the 1950s and ’60s introduced the legendary Constellation, Speedmaster, Seamaster 300 and Railmaster. Over the years, everyone from John F. Kennedy to Elvis wore Omega watches on official duties. What’s more, in 1962, astronaut Wally Schirra took his Omega Speedmaster to space on NASA’s Mercury Sigma 7 mission, and in 1969 two Speedmasters landed on the moon, worn by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

The Omega Constellation has remained Omega’s flagship Chronometer grade automatic dress watch since 1952. It was a development of the highly successful Omega Centenary Chronometer Automatics, 2499 and 2500, launched just a few years previously to coincide with the celebration of Omega’s first 100 years of high-end watch manufacture.
