Nice South Carolina rice plantation token issued by S.M. Ward the owner of Prospect Hill Plantation near Georgetown, S.C.  5¢ denomination, brass, 28mm, circulated condition.  See pics.......

This token was issued circa 1880-90 and was utilized to pay the field workers on the Prospect Hill Plantation located near Georgetown on the Waccamaw Neck.  The workers were mainly ex-slaves who still worked on the same plantation that they had been enslaved upon.  See photo of rice field workers and the Prospect Hill plantation home (now called Arcadia) above.
