An Original Civil War General Order issued at HQ Dept of the Gulf, New Orleans, Louisiana, May 5th, 1865 announcing that the right of parole  and return of the soldiers and officers of the Army which have surrendered to the authorities of the United States, but  does not attach to persons in civil life. All non-paroled persons who have been in civil service of the rebel government or residents who wish to return to Louisiana must report to the Provost Marshal General at New Orleans or to the Provost Marshal of the Parish where they may be by Command of Major General Banks.
 2p 8 x 5" ptd, ink sgd by LT Silas Hannum as Lt and Acting Assistant Adjutant General. Comes w service info.for Lt Silas Hannum who served w the 31st Massachusetts and 74th US Colored Infantry. This came from the estate of Captain George L Faxon, an East Bridgewater, Mass officer who served with the 38th Massachusetts Infantry,  the 77th US Colored Infantry and THE 10th US Colored Heavy Artillery, the latter in Louisiana at  Fort Macomb.  Age stains, minor edge wear, 2 small punch slits in left margin, Overall VG.
