Peace River Bridge highway sign.

Up for sale today is this Northwest Highway System territorial highway sign for the Peace River Bridge in northern British Columbia, at mile 35.3 on the Alaska (Alcan) Highway. this sign style was used in Yukon and Northwest Territories - as well as the northern parts of Alberta and British Columbia - prior to the numbered highway systems in each Canadian territory being devised in the 1950s.

the first route to receive the Northwest Highway System designation was the Alaska Highway, completed in 1942. other roads in the territories, such as routes from Alberta to Hay River and Yellowknife, NWT also got this designation as they were built in the 1950s. the roads, due to their strategic importance, were maintained by the Canadian Army.

The sign is 20 by 14 1/2 inches and weighs a solid 6 pounds, 3 ounces. It has been rescaled from the original 36 inch wide sign for more convenient display. It is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!

Would you like a number not seen here? Or perhaps a different style? I can of course make these signs with any city name of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and route shield signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A.
