Up for bid is a very rare piece of ephemera by the acclaimed French artist MARCEL DUCHAMP. This folded exhibition broadside was designed by Duchamp for a Man Ray exhibition entitled Objects of My Affection, which took place at the Julien Levy Gallery (NYC) in April, 1945. This photo-mechanical relief print is printed on a folded sheet of medium weight woven paper, and measures 11.5" x 9" (29.2 x 22.8 cm.) in the folded position. For the front cover, Duchamp appropriated an image by the Czech cinematographer Alexander Hackenschmied (Hammid). This film still is commonly referred to as "The Kiss", and possibly comes from a work by the avant-garde film maker Maya Deren. The original zinc plate for this print is part of the Duchamp Archives at the Philadelphia Musuem of Art (as shown in my final two images). The inside pages feature an artist's statement by Man Ray, and an exhibition checklist. The back page features a list of Man Ray's "Objects of My Affection".

This print is guaranteed authentic and comes directly from a recent Julien Levy estate sale. It is in very good vintage condition with bright colors and a very minimal amount of edge wear, and light staining as shown. The paper is lightly toned throughout, and the back page shows an offset ghost image of a similar front cover as shown. This ghosting effect was created from copies being stacked (one on top of another) for the past several decades.
