MS63* (Star) 1878 S Brilliant Morgan Silver Dollar NGC Certified.

This is the only designation with the star that I have come across. it is a brilliant luster and uncirculated condition. Below is a description of what the star designation refers to.

(NGC Star Designation) NGC assigns its trademarked Star Designation to coins with exceptional eye appeal for their assigned grade.

Exceptional eye appeal may include attributes such as vibrant, colorful toning; intense luster; or, in the case of Proof coins, especially strong cameo contrast. To receive a , coins must be free of any obvious planchet irregularities, and display no bothersome spots or blemishes. Toned coins can be of a single color or multicolored but cannot have any areas that are dark brown, approaching black.

In 1978 there were approximately 3.1 million Morgan silver dollars minted in San Francisco. This is a beautiful specimen that would create lots of interest from other coin collectors. I’ve had it in my collection for a few years. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
