STUNNING, BEAUTIFUL, TRADITIONAL, VINTAGE, AUTHENTIC, JAPANESE, SILK KIMONO - WOMEN’S HAORI JACKET -TEXTURE WOVEN SILK with BACKGROUND MOUNTAINS IN BLACK, WITH SPARKLING OMESHI (WOVEN) SILVER & GOLD, MOUNTAINS, TREE, RURAL BUILDINGS DESIGN

This is a stunning, unique, elegant, quality jacket in really fabulous condition for its age. There are a number of things that make this jacket especially lovely which don't show up well on the photos, so I will just mention them.

Firstly, the silk on this jacket is high quality, semi-lustrous, smooth woven silk.

On this base is woven a fabulous picture of ancient rural scenery with trees, mountains and small thatched houses in bright sparkling in silver and gold threads. There are underlying mountains and water waves in black which don't show well on the photos but catch the light nicely and add interest and depth to the design.  It is an elegant & sophisticated design!

The fact that the design is asymmetrical and extends over the back center seam, uninterrupted, gives a pictorial effect. It is called 'eba' and shows a much higher quality than an overall repeated pattern.

The pattern is woven omeshi which was most popular in the 1960s but the general design and patterned lining suggests that it is a bit more contemporary.

There is a single mon (family crest) in the centre back shoulders. This is a traditional small white crest from the samurai traditions and denotes formality in a garment. The mon shown is complex and shows a trisected pawlownia flower.

The lining is fine, glossy, ivory silk with a printed pattern of fanciful flowers in white and pale pink.

The tying cords are present which is a bonus as they are often missing. They are intricately woven in warm white silk graduating to pale pink at the tasseled ends. I will send the buyer information on how to tie the himo correctly.

The garment is really stunning and gives a unique effect.

It is a lovely item to touch and to wear and brings something of traditional Japanese culture into everyday use. This haori would make an excellent, unique and gorgeous evening jacket or a display item

AGE & CONDITION: This haori probably dates from the early Heisei Period (1989-2019) around the 1980s/1990s. The patterning and lining styles are characteristic of this date.

The haori's condition is vintage mint to the exterior with no faults to note . It is a very gently used item, with a little age, in overall great condition but please do not expect it to look exactly like new.

SIZE: This haori is fairly average in size.  It should fit a range of sizes up to a maximum of size UK 14 (please check the measurement before buying). It would be also be fine on someone a bit smaller too, as it is supposed to be large and flowing.

Cuff to cuff width is 127cm/50", overall length is 81cm/32", the width across the back (side seam to side seam) is 61cm/24”. It weighs about 580g. The weight is reflected in the postal costs.

HAORI are short kimono jackets worn over full length kimonos. They are not designed to close in front but can have two tying cords called Himo that are knotted across the chest ( included with this garment). The sleeves are worn shorter than other kimonos. Traditionally they were only worn by men but in the early 19th century, it became fashionable for women to wear them. They make excellent and unusual evening jackets or wall displays, the fabric is often used to make cushions or home décor items. This haori’s could also be used for display.

CLEANING: Vintage silk items should not be washed. They can usually be dry cleaned. Old stains are not usually removable and some finishes like gold paint may be diminished by dry cleaning.

If you need anymore information just contact me and ask.

All information is to the best of my knowledge. Please bear in mind, that colours do not always show absolutely accurately on photos and on monitors although they should be close to reality.

My items are mostly vintage and are not returnable unless grossly mis-described, so please check the details and measurements before bidding/buying. Please be aware that vintage clothing does not usually 'look like new' even when it is in excellent condition. Some slight general signs of ageing and use should be expected. If these are conspicuous, they will be mentioned in the description.
