We are uncertain of the tape’s exact age but believe it to date between 1978 and 1981. The tape is marked in part as follows: SONY METALLIC 46. 68m. COMPACT CASSETTE. TYPE IV (METAL) POSITION. 46 MINUTES. (23 MIN. EACH SIDE). EQUALIZER: TYPE IV (METAL). BIAS: METAL. DO NOT USE THIS TAPE ON A CASSETTE DECK NOT EQUIPPED WITH A TYPE IV (METAL) POSITION. SONY CORP. TOKYO JAPAN. The packaging has aging, fading, scratches, nicks, manufacturing imperfections, and general shelf wear (see pictures). The packaging looks to be free of any tears or holes.
