Item Title

Super Susie Cooper Gloria Luster Accessory Case With Lid

Description

This is a very rare "GLORIA LUSTRE" small accessory case with lid, made by English potter (and designer) Susie Cooper, circa 1926.Lusterware dates back to the 18th century. It is a technique of applying a shiny metallic film over a glaze. In 1926, at the age of 24, Susie Cooper saw a piece of lusterware at an exhibition and was so impressed that she tried her hand at making one herself.Gloria Luster's work is very popular in the United States and Europe. This is because, in addition to the excellence of the work itself, gloria peels off quickly after use, and there are very few pieces in existence in beautiful condition. Also, the absolute number of pieces produced is very small, which increases their rarity value.Susie's debut was in 1922, when she was 20 years old, so last year, 2022, marked 100 years since her debut. Under the U.S. tax law, a piece is considered "antique" if it is over 100 years old and "vintage" if it is less than 100 years old, so Suzy's pieces will finally be recognized as antique in both name and reality.❇️ Size, with lid closed,5 cm high, 8.5 cm in diameter❇️The date of creation is estimated to be around 1926 based on the backstamp and motif. The backstamp "GLORIALUSTER, AE GRAY and Co Ltd. ENGLAND" is a design of the morning sun, which was specially conceived to add a sense of luxury to glorial star pieces (backstamp list on last page). The ❇️ motif is,Vibrantly striped edged stylized fruit.❇️ Condition,The gloria luster is about 100 years old, so there are some scuff marks, but it is extremely good and beautiful. There is some uneven glaze on the interior, but it is a wonder that such a piece survived in this condition.
