A highly unusual item! This was originally a late Victorian Lustres Bohemian candle stick. It is hand-painted and gilded. Somewhere in the past century, it was folk converted into an electric light. A cord was added, the shade was replaced, the cut glass dangling bangles were removed, and a hole was hand-drilled into it to allow the passage of an electrical cord and the installation of an electric cord and bulb socket. Still very pretty, but now more convenient to use. Many items of this type were converted by private owners to work with the introduction of electricity shortly after the turn of the century. The original cord and socket it would have used upon conversion has been replaced again with a later, more modern cord and socket as time wore on. Really neat and lovely piece with a lot of history and a story behind it! Sure to entertain guests who ask about this unusual item!
