The JNR ED42 electric locomotive is an apt-type electric locomotive used on the Shinetsu Main Line (between Gunma and Nagano prefectures in Japan) between 1934 and 1948. The basic design followed the ED41 (manufactured by ABB) imported from Switzerland, with some design changes. This product is modeled after No. 5 to No. 16, which can be said to be the standard type that had the largest number of locomotives.
