Fine original contemporary publisher's full fine leather bindings, gilt
ruled spine with red gilt lettered labels in the second compartment,
vol.2 label gone, all boards detached. No repairs or restoration done.

Hutchinson was a governor of Massachusetts from 1771 to
1773 and a Loyalist. When his house was attacked during the Stamp Act
riots, the manuscript of Volume II was thrown into the muddy streets,
but was recovered and issued separately in 1767. He moved to London in
late 1773, after his actions were one of the precipitating causes of the
Boston Tea Party, and remained in exile in England until his death in
1780. The Collection is described as "a necessary adjunct to
Hutchinson's History of Massachusetts Bay," and the last was published
posthumously from Hutchinson's notes in 1828.
Extremely rare. Absolutely spectacular.

all the boards are detached,
some wear/tear, scuffing, chipping fading to covers, spine ends chipped & corners
worn, pages
with sporadic age
toning soiling, are clean & bright (See Scans below), the
covers are off, but the bindings still intact. The leather is smooth & supple
to the touch.
NOTE: WAF. SOLD WITH ALL FLAWS. AS IS.
No repairs or restoration done.
Note: Boards
off, spine edges worn, wear tear scuffing. Minor ink stain to foreedge of vol.1 [See last scan below]
