1678 ENGLISH Quevedo Visions
Occult GHOSTS Spanish Fantasy Dreams Demons Hell
“He who spends time regretting the past
loses the present and risks the future.”
― Francisco de Quevedo
Francisco de Quevedo was one of the most well-known Spanish authors of
the early 17th-century. He is most remembered for his satirical
‘dream’ poetry in which he writes himself into his story. ‘Dreams’ or ‘Visions’ is a
collection of visions in which Quevedo witnesses the Day of Judgment and sees
visions of hell, demons and devils, evil spirits being exorcised, and more
experiences of the occult. The satire came in the form of Quevedo seeing
various recognizable groups of people in hell including lawyers, astrologers,
innkeepers, Protestants, accountants, Jews, physicians, and …women.
