2009 Canada 25-Cent Notre-Dame Du Saguenay
More than 300 metres above sea level, the statue of Notre-Dame-du-Saguenay is an impressive sight. Measuring 10.5 metres in height, the 3-ton statue was designed in 1881 by Louis Jobin, and has become a regional emblem, watching over sailors for more than 125 years. Visitors and cruise ships from all over the globe stop and gather at her feet to sing Ave Maria, in praise of the patron lady of the fjord. A splendid waterway carved out of nature, the Saguenay Fjord offers breathtaking scenery with its imposing towers of rock standing 350 metres high, shaped by the massive force of glaciers. Unique in North America, the Saguenay Fjord is both a renowned natural attraction and a 120-km long maritime corridor with inhabited shores from Saint-Fulgence to Tadoussac.
