VERY RARE TO  FIND, TRADITIONAL JAPANESE TAKEKAGO KINCHAKU DRAWSTRING BAG, RED with WHITE & COLOURFUL PATTERNING,  CREPE FABRIC AND DARK BROWN BAMBOO BASE. FULLY LINED IN PALE PEACH COTTON-LIKE, NEW CONDITION.

 

This is a very rare item to find for sale in the UK. 

Drawstring 'kinchagu' bags are the typical sort of handbag used with kimono. I understand that the ones like this with a basket 'kago' base are a special variant of this sort of bag and are traditionally carried by geisha and maiko (trainee geisha).   

The bag is in made in the traditional form with a dark brown, woven, bamboo base. 

The lovely, outer bag fabric looks like lustrous crepe silk but is probably a synthetic. It has a deep and bright red background. The patterning shows stylised chrysanthemum flower shapes in white with turquoise blue, green and yellow centres. 

The inside is fully lined in pale peach coloured, lustrous fabric which is looks like a lustrous cotton but may also be synthetic. 

The drawstrings typical thick rounded silky cords. They are unusual because the two are different colours, one is a deep orange and the other a golden yellow.  

CONDITION: This bag is probably fairly recently made. This rare bag appears to be unused. It is in near mint condition. Overall it looks like new but on the closest inspection, there is a tiny yellowing in the patterning which is not at all conspicuous but is mentioned for accuracy and may account for how it came to the second hand market.  

SIZE: It is a decent size. The basket base measures 21cm long x 12.5cm wide by 3cm high. The overall  height of the red bag part is about 15cm tall. 

From the base to the top of straps when it is hanging down is about  46cm.

It weighs about 130g.

A NOTE ABOUT POSTAGE. Despite being small and light, this bag has to be sent as a parcel which is reflected in the postage costs. I will be using tracked postage.

Payment and postage terms: The postal charge includes a small packaging and handling charge. eBay now charge a final value fee commission on the postal charge as well as the item value. So I have had to pass this new cost on via the postal cost.

UK buyers – I have to used tracked postage now to protect both the buyer and seller in case of problems with delivery.

On post to overseas.- I am now using the eBay Global Shipping Programme, so the shipping rates are not set buy me. Once the item has left my hands, the control of the shipping is with eBay.

Combined postage for UK buyers, depending on what you buy, I will look into the most secure and economical way to send combined parcels and advise you of options. But, as the weight and value of the parcel rises so does the postage cost. Please do not expect large savings on combined postage. Sometimes it is actually cheaper to send more than one parcel.

RETURNS POLICY – I do not take returns except in the exceptional circumstance of an item being wrongly described. Please understand that selling items on ebay and posting them out incurs costs to me, so please don't buy unless you have read the description carefully and are sure that you want the item. Except in the situation where an item has been wrongly described, the buyer is always responsible for return postage.
