Listing is for a discontinued/out-of-production, HO (1/87th) scale, Santa Fe 200-ton crane by Athearn (item #1702).

With its blue body, yellow lettering on the cab and a yellow boom, this is a great looking crane.  Road number on the sides of the cab is 190793.

The cab can rotate 360°. The boom arm can be raised and lowered as can the smaller hook at the boom’s end and the double big-hook.

What makes this crane really special is that I restrung the boom and big‑hook crane to make them more prototypical. Usually, you find these cranes with only a single string around larger sleeves but I installed narrower sleeves to allow for the additional wiring.

Please note, that in the interest of full disclosure, buyer should keep the boom under tension, less the strings become tangled.  (I used a rubber band as shown in the last picture but an experienced modeler could probably use a small chain or piece of black elastic string (neither chain or elastic string included).)

Crane comes with body-mounted KD knuckle couplers and plastic 6-wheel buckeye trucks.

The “Standard Guide to Athearn Model Trains” indicates the kit with this road number was produced in 1997; however, since Athearn stopped making their blue-box kits in 2009, it can be hard to find.

Listed as used because it is not in its original box, it has been assembled and the crank handle is home-made.  However, it has been sitting on a display shelf and never been on a layout so it is like new (albeit slightly dusty).

Item described as well as possible, but is sold "as is" so please contact me if you have any questions.

I will combine multiple items to reduce shipping whenever possible. If you purchase this item and other item(s) I am selling, please request an invoice to receive any combined shipping discount. To request an invoice, add the items to your eBay cart and then request an invoice on the checkout page. I will reply with an invoice reflecting the combined shipping charge. Be aware that when you add items to your cart and request the invoice you will be committed to buying them.

Note:  some buyers have indicated eBay’s system will not allow them to request an invoice from me.  If you are unable to request an invoice, you will have to purchase the items and each item’s separate shipping cost.  However, I will refund any shipping overage.

Unless other arrangements are made, payment is to be made within two days after purchase or invoice is sent.

Check out my other listings for more out-of-production or hard-to-find kits, especially Athearn "blue-box" kits. Athearn discontinued manufacturing them in 2009, so they are becoming scarce and hard to find. With Athearn’s purchase of Model Die Casting, Inc., the MDC/Roundhouse kits have also been discontinued and are no longer available.
