The Hokuriku Main Line is a logistics hub that forms part of the Sea of Japan line. In the past, the line had steep sections and long tunnels such as Yanagase and Yamanaka, which caused difficulties for train crews. Author Toshiyuki Shiihashi spoke to Masashi Takekoshi, who at the time was employed at JNR Tsuruga Engine Depot, worked as an assistant engineer at Imajō Engine Depot, and then became engineer at Kanazawa Engine Depot.
