The foliage appears in early spring, then dies back during July. A few weeks later a stalk appears growing dramatically from the ground in mid Aug. in WV. That stalk has the blooms. Grow in most garden soil. Zones 4-9

Plant as soon as possible for them to get establish roots and can bloom properly. Plant 6" deep in full sun. Flowers do not always bloom the first season they are planted.
