This one-piece genuine mahogany guitar neck is 1 3/4" wide at the nut, and the neck heel is plenty deep enough for a Dreadnought.  It has been in Gryphon’s attic for at least 30 years and maybe longer.  It looks like a partially-shaped Martin Dreadnought neck blank but we can’t be sure of that and since the rosewood fingerboard does not have a Martin string scale, and there’s no adjustable truss rod or steel reinforcing rod, it’s clearly not a neck intended for a stock Martin guitar.   Martin did provide similar neck blanks for guitar kits many years ago (including kits marketed by others), and since it’s not CNC carved if it came from Martin it would be from before about 1992. Despite the “18” stamp on the dovetail, we can’t be sure of this neck’s origin.  Our guess is that this is a neck from a guitar kit, and that it came to us in one of the batches of wood and parts that we acquired from local shops or amateur luthiers who were retiring.  The headstock overlay is East Indian rosewood, as is the fingerboard with 20 fret slots. The string scale is 25 1/2“,  the neck heel is 4 1/4"  deep, measured from the bottom edge of the fingerboard, so it’s long enough for a standard Dreadnought body. However, note that the dovetail doesn't extend the full depth, so this neck could easily be modified for a smaller guitar body like an OM.
