California National Forest sign

Up for sale today is this US Forest Service California National Forest guide sign. Made to the exact standards as used from the 1910s to the 1930s by the US Forest Service to guide hikers along the trails, roads, and highways so they wouldn’t get lost and possibly eaten by bears. The signs were posted in the National Forests of all 50 states; this one is from California.

Printed on heavy steel with great gloss to replicate the old-school porcelain look, this sign is made to the highest standards of quality. It is 15 by 10 inches, and weighs 3 pounds, 14 ounces – rescaled from the original 20 by 13 for more convenient display.

It is a high quality, heavy steel, non-reflective sign – perfect for both indoor and outdoor display. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!

I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A.
