Please be sure to scroll down past the photos for the full description of this auction including sizes and condition

Hello, thank you for viewing our estate auctions.

This week we are offering Joanies “Great Estates” multi-week spring estate auction sales. This group of auctions features an amazing array of fresh to market hand picked treasures. The sales will span over the next few weeks starting with three days of Asian arts, followed by a sale of important works of art, silver, bronzes, porcelain, glass, two to three days of fine estate jewelry, and many other fine objects of virtue to numerous to mention!

We have saved up a great array of choice examples from important estate collections. The main portion of the collection came for a prominent Le Chateau Montreal family collection we have been offering over the past months. The family has now asked us to clear out their parents (packed full) Laurentian’s chalet. The vast majority of items were acquired by the parents 40-70 years ago, with many others being earlier family heirlooms. The family has indicated their parents were good friends of Alex Gurie of the famed Gurie Gallery, Montreal, and that many of the Asian arts examples were acquired from Gurie during the 1960 to 70s. This is surely one of the most impressive and large estates we have dealt with in over 20 years of offering estate items here on eBay. We hope you enjoy viewing and bidding on some of these great treasures!

Here at Joanies we pride ourselves on only offering estate-fresh hand selected antiques and collectables. Items that we know have been with the estate and families for several decades and generations. Joanies has been running estate auctions on eBay for upwards of 20 years with the most reputable track record of satisfied customers that can be achieved. During this entire time, offering tens of thousands of objects Joanies has Never had a Reserve on one item Ever! You will also find Joanies provides a wide variety of large images and accurate condition reports for the items we offer. We also offer great combined shipping rates for small to mid size items that we can pack together if you are interested in more than one item being offered.

We wish everyone the very best of luck with the auctions!
Kindest Regards, Joanies

This cong is an interesting example that has a rich greenish-yellow color tone. We found it extremely hard to portray the cong’s natural color tone within our photo tent. As seen, we have also included an image taken in natural daylight with other jades being offered, which shows white and celadon jade examples against the jade cong. As seen, when compared to the other pieces this cong resonates a strong greenish-yellow tone. This group image with the other jades best portrays this jade cong’s natural color tone when handled in person, in comparison to the other images which are of a darker tone. We have read that these beautiful rich yellow color tones are created after millennia of being buried and exposed to earth’s natural elements. This interesting jade cong is being offered Without Reserve!

Family Provenance: The family has indicated the parents were good friends with Alex Gurie of the famed Asian arts Gurie gallery on Sherbrooke street, Montreal that closed several decades ago. We are told this cong, along with other items from the family, were purchased from Gurie. We are told this cong was sold by Gurie as Neolithic period, Qijia culture (1900-1500BC). The shop was first opened by Alex Gurie’s father during the 1950’s. Alex Gurie took over the shop during the 1960’s. Alex Gurie was very likely the first gallery in Canada that specialized in Asian arts, with a keen interest in Archaic works. Alex commonly frequented high end auction sales in New York, London, and Hong Kong during the 1960-70s. Many highly important works of Chinese art were brought to Canada by Alex, some of which have more recently sold for substantial amounts. As seen, the cong also has an old tag that appears to read “Phillips, Jan 73”, we would assume for the year 1973. We know Phillips auction did have a location in Montreal for many years so it is possible this example may have also been acquired there by Gurie.

Condition: Estate-fresh, very minor chip imperfections to edges, overall substantially fine and intact as seen in the images, which serve as part of the condition report. UV light reveals no hidden damage or repairs.

Size: The cong measures 4 1/4 inches tall x 2 1/2 ices wide, and weighs 686 grams.
