This week we are offering Joanies “Great Estates” multi-week spring estate auction sales. This group of auctions features an amazing array of fresh to market hand picked treasures. We have saved up a great array of choice examples from important estate collections. The main portion of the collection came for a prominent Le Chateau Montreal family collection we have been offering over the past months. The family has now asked us to clear out their parents (packed full) Laurentian’s chalet. The vast majority of items were acquired by the parents 40-70 years ago, with many others being earlier family heirlooms. The family has indicated their parents were good friends of Alex Gurie of the famed Gurie Gallery, Montreal, and that many of the Asian arts examples were acquired from Gurie during the 1960 to 70s. This is surely one of the most impressive and large estates we have dealt with in over 20 years of offering estate items here on eBay. This censer is part of a large estate collection we offered a few months back that brought some impressive interest. The estate has located these last few examples that we now have to offer. The family brought the collection out of Hong Kong when they immigrated c1950. The collection originated with the family’s grandparents that had a keen interest in Flambe, Longquan, and Guan examples. We are told some family members were influential within the Shiwan kilns around the Guangzhou region during the Ming to Qing dynasties.

The vase has a very unusual and interesting volcanic-like mottled flambe glaze with color variations from black to green and white. The vase’s interior and inner base have a nice white glaze design. The body is textured and may be to imitate something like archaic bronze or tree bark, but we really have no idea. We have read during the earlier 18th century the kilns widely experimented with glazed creating a large variety of very unique objects.

We are not exactly sure of the vase’s age. We are confident that this vase would be of antique age, and would date 100 or more years old. The vase is very well constructed of fine porcelain and has a particularly well carved under-cut footrim. We believe this is also a good indication of older age when more care and artistic refinement was delegated within the kilns. This very interesting example is being offered Without Reserve!

Condition: Estate-fresh, minor wear and minor glaze imperfections consistent with antique age as seen in the images. Overall substantially good with no chips, cracks or repairs. UV light reveals no hidden damage.

Size: 10 inches tall x 6 inches wide.
