A very desirable and scarce overdate, especially in high grade, PCGS has graded just ten examples finer than this choice example, and only three finer have earned CAC approval. While some numismatists are skeptical that it is a true overdate, hence PCGS' attribution of this coin as 1914/(3), experts speculate that the overdate was caused when a 1913 dated master die was repunched with a 1914 dated hub and it remains a popular variety among specialists. Both sides are largely well-struck with sharp to bold detail throughout. Wonderfully lustrous beneath a dusting of dusky rose and golden-grey tones. Overall an exceptional example of this intriguing Buffalo nickel variety! - Buffalo Nickel
