Covers 288 bird species discoveries since1960. Each account includes the discovery story, a description of the bird, with photographs and details on biology, range and conservation status known at the time.

As well as information on individual discoveries there is a comprehensive glossary, short chapters on 'the concept of species', and 'an historical perspective'.  After the species accounts there are chapters on future species, invalid species, future discoveries, the ethics of collecting, conservation issues and a bibliography.
