Texas US Route 81 route marker.

Up for sale today is this Texas US Route 81 sign. Made to the exact 1952 state standard, complete with the unique-to-Texas digits, as used between then and the early 1960s along this famous highway. This would have been the design in use during US 81's glory days before the Interstate system, when it extended far south of its current end in Fort Worth, to places like Austin and San Antonio.

An original of these is very hard to come by. They were retired from the roads of Texas long ago, with most of them being destroyed and only a few examples circulating on the collector's market. An original would easily run many hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the collector's market. So here's your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece...without breaking the bank.

The sign is 12 by 12 inches, and weighs 2 lb. 14 oz.

This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!

Would you like a number not seen here? Or perhaps a different style? I can of course make these signs with any route number of your choice, and not just this style, but older and newer ones, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A.
