The top is genuine Shell Cordovan horse leather, the bottom is skin-friendly cowhide.
Shell Cordovan leather is obtained exclusively from the buttocks of horsehides, the so-called shells. Only two pieces of leather of approx. size can be allowed per horse. 30 x 40 cm can be used. The complex tanning and the highly durable leather explain the higher price for the finished leather. The leather also has a high fat content and is therefore highly water-repellent. Differently like e.g. B. with cowhide, the inside of this leather is processed as the outside. The initially rough inside of the leather is processed until a smooth, pore-free surface with a very special shine is achieved. The leather is also treated with oils and dried on glass panes. Almost all processes are carried out by hand. The tanning process takes approx. 6 months. Due to long delivery times for the leather, only a few watch strap manufacturers offer these straps.

For all Rios watch straps, the leather used was purchased in accordance with the provisions of the Washington Convention on Endangered Species and therefore does not endanger the respective species.
