This book represents Mary Assheton's efforts to cultivate her sons' education and social aspirations as connoisseurs of art, taste and fashion.

It is an abridged version of the 3-volume work "Chronological Antiquities" published in 1752 by John Jackson. The original 3-volume work by Jackson aimed to bring together histories of ancient civilizations and reconcile them with the Old Testament chronology.

The abridgement was done by Mary Assheton, Lady Curzon (1695-1776)

It appears to have been a private, limited printing done by Mary Assheton likely for distribution among family and friends only.

Mary's abridged version seems to have been created as a reference guide to major ancient civilizations like Greece, Rome, Egypt for the education of her sons.

The copy in the Kedleston Hall library has inscription, “Caroline Curzon June the 28th 1756.”

The copy in the Special Collections held at the University of Leicester's David Wilson Library has inscription, "The gift of Lady Curzon, widow of Sir Nathaniel Curzon, who abridged Mr. Jackson's chronology for the use of her sons. Twenty copies only were printed."

The copy in the National Library of Israel has inscription, “To Mr. Witton From Lady Curzon. 1756.”

The binding of the copy for auction here is the same as those in Kedleston and University of Leicester. I have not seen the copy in the National Library of Israel.
