Date: Circa: 16th Century: Tudor Period 1485 – 1603:

Size: UK Ring Size: M ½: weight: 6.39 grams:

Here we have a recently detected silver ring thought by style to be dated to the 16th Century [late 1500’s] and thus a ring from the Tudor era: The band of the ring is seen as a simple convex band with granulated decorated shoulders: The bezel is oval and divided between an upper and lower silver plate accented with a border of silver-filigree rope work: The upper bezel is decorated with what is thought to be a type of ‘Tudor Rose’ design which, has been formed in filigree and granulated silver:

Condition: Fine:

This ring is extremely old and I have deliberately not over-cleaned it to preserve the patination tones of the silver: This type of oxide and calcification can only take place over great age: The ring has been tumbled in the earth and the upper bezel has received a small amount of compression in one location [see pictures], and this wear / damage adds to the character of the ring: The patina and calcite formations are in keeping with the age of this example:

Should you wish to further clean the ring it will respond well to this: however, this is the buyers choice:

Provenance: Finders Provenance Winter 2022:

The ring was detected ½ mile from the village of Stilton along a length of suspected medieval trackway running north-east towards St Peters Church in Yaxley [constructed approx. AD 1190]:
