River Worn Hadrosaur Ungual

This river worn hoof core comes from the Hadrosaur, Edmontosaurus.  Edmontosaurus was a huge herbivore, adults reached lengths of over 40 feet long.  With the discovery of numerous specimens, including some excellent skeletons, Edmontosaurus is one of the best known dinosaurs.  Edmontosaurs were large duck billed dinosaurs whose name means "Edmonton Lizard".

This Edmontosaurus ungual was found in one piece needing only a crack and small area on the distal edge, to be filled to help stabilize the fossil.  The hoof core has quite a bit of river wear.  The Edmontosaurus ungual has nice detail and preservation with a dark brown coloration.  All around a nice example of a Hadrosaur hoof core.

The Edmontosaurus Ungual measures:  3 13/16" inches wide by 3 11/16" inches in length.

The Edmontosaurus ungual was dug out of a microsite in the Hell Creek Formation of Carter County, Montana.  The fossil was collected on private ranch land with the owner's permission.
