Description Beautiful English antique Art Deco solid sterling silver and real shagreen (sharkskin) box by the silversmiths P H Vogel & Co (1925 - 1934) in lovely condition and with full English silver hallmarks for London 1928. Excellent quality, with a hinged silver and inside it is complete with its original undamaged interior gilding and it also still has its original mirror. Weighs approx 31 grams and has no added personal engravings. Nice rare item.
Measurements Measures approx 1.6 inches (40mm) in diameter and is 0.5 inches (13mm) deep.
Date English antique solid sterling silver with full English silver hallmarks for London 1928 (date letter "n"). Good clear silver marks includes the silver import "horseshoe" stamp of the London assay office and there are matching hallmarks on the mirror retainer under the lid. The silversmiths initials are "PHV", (P H Vogel & Co - 1925 - 1934).
Condition Lovely condition, with no splits or repairs to the silver, definitely no wear holes and no knocks or dents, a very nice genuine antique example. The silver lid hinge still works perfectly and the lid opens and closes securely and the original interior gilding is still in excellent condition and the glass mirror plate has no cracks or hairlines and is still pretty clear, (just very minor foxing). Most importantly the beautiful real shagreen covering is all intact with no damage or losses, just slight age discolouring you would expect to find on a piece almost 100 years old. A fine rare Art Deco silver box and with no added personal engravings.
