Vintage Tinplate Battery-Operated Perplex Tractor, Arnold,
West Germany. VGiB
 
A vintage tinplate battery-operated Perplex Tractor, with
yellow and red body, lithographed engine, black lights,
exhausts and rubber tracks, and plastic driver figure  
made by the Arnold Co. of Western Germany in the
1950's or 60's, with original box.
 
The tractor measures 6.5 inches long by 4 wide and 4
inches tall and is in very good used cosmetic condition with
 minor playwear and marks. According to the instructions it
 runs off 3 penlight batteries, but I’m unsure if this equates
to AA type equivalent in the UK (they are a tight fit in the
holder) - when I tried these batteries in the battery case
 (under the tractor top), nothing happened, so either the
 batteries in Germany are different, or the tractor needs
 attention to work. The tractor is marked on the front
 with the “Arnold” Trade Mark and “Perplex”, and under
the base with the “Arnold” Trade Mark and “Made in
Western Germany”, It comes with a fair original box
with some repairs especially to the edges, also fully
marked and with internal packing and an instruction
leaflet.
