Original page from "Frank Leslie's Illustrite Zeitung", a German language newspaper published in New York city from 1857 to1894. The image depicts Léon Gambetta, a French statesman of the Third Republic, with others escaping aboard balloons from a besieged Paris in October 1870.
- Lithograph of an engraving on very light paper, sheet size is 14 x 11 inches.
- Gold colored metal frame is 18 1/2 x 13 1/2, with matting and glass.
- The printed page is backed by, but not mounted to, a heavy folio page for support.
- The reverse has text in German, in a difficult to read Gothic font.
- In very good condition overall, with toning expected of 153 year old paper but no stains or water damage.
- Paper is very brittle and has some chips missing along edges.
- Unfortunately it was stored folded resulting in a tear running nearly top to bottom, which has been repaired on the reverse.
