This late ‘60s D-28 neck turned up in Gryphon’s attic, and it’s one of the few used necks up there from years ago where we actually remember how and why we got it. One of our customers bought a mid-1950s D-28 with a refinished neck and brought it in for a neck reset.  But when we got the neck out it was obvious the neck was at least a decade newer than the body, as it had the square steel tube neck reinforcement first introduced in 1967. At that point the customer ordered a neck with the steel T bar, leaving this one behind. Chances are good this neck was ordered as a replacement when that mid-‘50s D-28 was owned by someone who wasn’t as particular! Since the dovetail and neck heel are Martin's standard, this neck should fit D-28 models from the 1950s, '60s, and 1970s.

Neck is one-piece mahogany with some nice figure, headstock veneer appears to be Brazilian rosewood.  Ebony fingerboard has what appear to be virtually new frets. The 15th fret is missing but we'll include some fret wire that should match the other frets, once this neck is glued in you can install that 15th fret, do a slight milling and you should be good to go. Note the hairline crack that runs down the middle of the fingerboard from the nut slot to just past the 4th fret. Doesn't appear to have been glued so wick in some thin cyanoacrylate! String scale is Martin’s standard 25.4”, neck is 1 11/16” wide at the nut. Neck heel is 3 13/16” from the underside of the fingerboard to the top of the heel cap. Headstock was drilled for Grover Rotomatics. Pearl fingerboard dots are standard sizes and pattern for the D-28 model.
